NHL Cancels All Star Game !!

In a brilliant move today the NHL announced that there would be no All Star game. Just as I was getting ready to fill out my ballot and recall all the players from Europe !! Wow, I wonder when they'll announce there won't be a Stanley Cup final. The two sides haven't even met since September 9th and have no intention of doing so.

On another note, I wonder how this is all going to affect the production of the NHL figs. They were my favorite sports figures.

What IS going on in the world of hockey? I'm confused.

Although most hockey players are the most "underpaid" sports players in all sports. Maybe Soccer is under hockey as far as pay... (Not counting superstars!)

The problem in the NHL is the disparity of money distribution among teams. There are a few aspects to this problem. Successful teams get more money which allows them to recruit the better players with more money. Lesser performing teams don't make money and in turn, don't have the economic resources to acquire better players. Basically the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Teams owners want a salary cap on the players to keep their salary demands from spinning out of control.

Players feel they should be able to negotiate whatever price they can get.

The NHL has also proposed a luxury tax on teams that spend over a certain amount for their team payroll to spread the wealth among the league.

One of the most agreed upon issue is that there are too many teams out there today to support a 4th sport market. Some argue for less teams with only elite players.

They are not the most underpaid. They are getting 74% of all the revenue. No other sports gives 74% of the revenue to there players.

They are not the most underpaid. They are getting 74% of all the revenue. No other sports gives 74% of the revenue to there players.<hr /></blockquote>Yes that's true. However, hockey players do make less money over all than the big 3 sport players.

I'm only pointing this out so we have proper perspective. 74% of hockey revenues is a drop in the bucket compared to 74% of football revenues. But football draws a helluva lot more fans than hockey.
